Steering Torque Trim Tab Repair

The receptor bolt hole for my steering torque trim tab has severely eroded allowing the bolt attaching tab to lower gear case to fall out. About 1/4 inch of the bottom surface of hole is gone and hole is widened. Giving consideration to tapping and using some JB Weld to hold a helicoil in place. Question is would that work and how far could I drill up into the hole before breaching the gear case? Honda BF225

If you have hydraulic steering, you really don't need that trim tab, so I've been told.

If you need it, yes the helicoil coupled with some JB Weld ought to do the trick. You shouldn't need to drill any further than the current hole depth.

I was also told with hydraulic steering the tab is not needed but I'm not so sure about that. Seems when setting one or two clicks to the right, looking from rear, made steering feel a bit more neutral.
