    Default Preserving Old Parts

    Hello,

I have the piston and cylinder liner that failed in an old inline 6 Detroit Diesel. I was hoping to turn it into a sort of decoration in my office but am not really sure what the best way of preserving the parts are. If I clean all the oil off of these parts will they start to rust? Do I need some kind of clear coat sprayed on them?

    Thanks,
    Hunter

They will rust over time but if you're not in a very humid clime, it's a really slooow process. But you are correct, if you want to polish the parts to a high shine, a can or two of clear coat is how you keep them that way.
