5.0 Volvo Penta swap to 5.7 mercruiser long block

I have a 5.0 Volvo Penta GI with a cracked block. I’m thinking of just purchasing a 5.7 mercruiser long block and keep all the original attachments from the 5.0. Is that possible? I don’t know much about boats but someone that works on boats told me he can do so at a decent price.
 
Gina....my sisters name, Hi. Go to Mercruiser Stern Drive forum here at Marine Engine and read through the "2000 / M/C 5.0 Two cylinders not firing". Plenty information for you here. You will have to change your carburator and prop for sure too. Tim
