DT40C won't start after "cleaning" the carb

Hi All,

Engine worked fine last time I ran it.

I squirted some carb cleaner into the carb, and also into the pilot jet, just for some very simple maintenance. But now it won't start...?!

It has fuel, old, but stabilized. Plugs (new and properly gapped) are wet, so fuel is getting through. Flooded it trying to start it (drained bowl before each attempt).

I'd have thought carb cleaner in the carb would help it start, not hinder it!

It coughed once to start with, but now just cranks over and nothing...

Any ideas?

Also, how would you start flooded? The fast idle lever only gives you a slight amount of throttle... On my old, smaller outboard, there was a button you could press to disconnect the gears, and move the lever to full throttle.

TIA!

Try draining the carbs and pumping fresh fuel through, if that doesn't fix it then you may have to strip and clean them properly

Thanks, I did try that. Turned out to be the idle jet. Weirdly on both the old, and new, idle jets, you can't really see through them :/

Replaced now, and running well.
