Tiller to Side Mount Controls Conversion

Newbie here. I have a 272 Oday sailboat with an older long shaft 9.9 Envinrude kicker motor. Looking to change the setup to a 20hp with side mount controls. Looking for suggestions on older motors. Would like electric start and tilt. Can anyone suggest a year and make that can make this possible? Most makes have a tiller to control conversion kit? Budget is under $2000K conrtols included.

Hi, probably gotta go Yamaha. Maybe try a post there. Not sure if the Merc group is going to answer your call. Also try Johnson Evinrude.

Buy the motor the way you need it. Conversions can be a pain and expensive. To get tilt you will probably need a 4 strk motor. You can buy aftermarket tilt systems for the 2 strks. Any OMC 20 hp 85 and newer is a good motor.. Any 87 or newr Mercury 20 hp is also a good choice same for Yamaha. Stay away from the OMC 4 strk motors either american or japanese.
