School Shop Teacher needs help

Hi Guys, I teach a secondary school shop class and we picked up a (01/24/1989 70Hp) Mercury yesterday and wanted to order service/owners manual but cannot find it on the mercury site. The paperwork and the dealers MercNET site shows serial # 0A748383 and M# 10704129C. But why is it not searchable on mercury's site for parts or manuals? The serial number on the motor is not readable, just too old and faded, the plug says A748383. Any help is appreciated. The dealer is gone on vacation so I cannot get him for a month.

Serial number should be stamped on a welch plug on the engine (won't fade out) Is this a large bore 3 cylinder 70 r the 3 cylinder 2 carb model? If it's the large bore the manual would be 90-13645-21095. If it is the small bore it would be 90-86135-51-593. This is according to a service manual index. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your info as we still have not found the manuals. It is a 3 cylinder 3. Carb motor. The welch plug has A748383 on it. Thats all for numbers other than what was posted. We appreciate any info that can shine some light onto this as we try to do everything “by the book” ... if we can findone!

On behalf of our shop class, thank you so much for your insight and assistance in securing more detailed information as well as access to the manuals. We have started training the next generation of marine techs.
Best,
Martin

If you want to save a few more bucks here I have the manual (merc factory manual) for that motor in pdf form. If you drop me an email at [email protected] I can send it to you in a few emails (it's broken down into 7 chapters and some sub-chapter pdf files so the overall manual is fairly large so mails easier in smaller chunks).

This is an amazing offer...thank you. We did not get any budget for our marine program, so I have been financing it from my pocket for the students. They are very motivated and anxious to get started so after a few "step by step" lecture periods with your manual, the "marine team" will get busy! My email is on the way.
Best,
Martin

Make sure it the correct manual as it needs to be 90-13645-2 as this is a looper not a crossflow. If you need correct one PM me your email. Where are you located???
