98 Bass Tracker Speedometer

The speedometer on the boat is not working and I don't think the last owner really ever bothered with it due to electronic devices that read the speed. Is this a common simple problem...what might be the issue? Thanks
 
Usually the speedo pickup "pitot tube" isn't all the way down in the flow or
the end of the pickup is clogged or broken off.
Sometime the hose from the pickup can get pinched off or broken somewhere between the back and the speedo.

Check the pickup and see if it's clear.
Then remove the hose from the pickup and shoot compressed air into it.
That should make the needle jump.
