Carbon discharged from 1996 454 on start up.

The engines run fine. Both have recent tune ups and there seems to be little oil consumption. However, after a period of idle and shut down, the engines wil
discharge large amounts of carbon from the exhausts. My mechanic is at a loss since everything else checks out. This is a throttle body fuel injection engine. Any suggestions?

Engines require a rich mixture when cold to keep on running. This is accomplished on carbed engines with the choke. Fuel injected engines run a richer mixture by a longer "on" time on the injectors. Might ensure the temp sensor signal is working correctly. Not an expert here but hope the old heads can give some insight.
