Impellar change

I have a 2006 yamaha 8 hp.that I am putting a new impellar in I've removed the 4 nuts on lower unit and disconnected the shift linkage but I can't get the lower unit to drop down, I've pulled,twisted and even hit with a rubber mallet but can't get it to drop any suggestions
 
You need to disconnect the shift shaft. Half way down the trunk on the starboard side the is larve rubber grommet, remove it, shift into reverse and inside the hole you will a 10mm bolt head holding a two piece connecter, loosen it sufficiently till the lower until slides out. I must warn you that putting it back is a challenge if you have not done it before.
