1985 50hp grounding voltage regulator

Recently replaced the OEM rectifier (part#62351A1) with a CDI voltage regulator (part#193-5114). The old rectifier was grounded by contact to the motor while the CDI regulator contains a ground wire. This voltage regulator doesn't mount that great, as its really meant for Johnson/Evinrude outboards.

I currently have the regulator ground wire against itself, held on by the srcrew that is threaded through the rectifier mounting hole. Is this an acceptable setup? I feel like it should be ground directly against the engine block, but theres no good way to secure it.

There really isn't another good spot to ground this wire as it is quite short. The only other spot nearby is the starter solenoid, and I didnt want to assume the black wire there was a ground.

Is it OK as is, or should I ground that out elsewhere?

Thanks!
