Vp 290 throttle button stuck

Hello, I have been working on the engine over the summer and just got it going. But when I put it in reverse the throttle button popped out and now its stuck. I have tried lubricating it but to no avail.
Any solution to this? I have included link to some pictures.

That looks like an older Throttle/Shift unit. In fact, it looks as though it pre-dates the 290 era.
Can you tell us what year the boat is?

Given that the throttle/shift unit is that old, I would simply replace it with a newer style that is 33C cable capable.

As for the 290 stern drive, these were introduced in the mid 80s, some 20 years after your boat had been built.
