Hello,

I just purchased a 1966-era boat with a Volvo Penta outdrive which I am trying to ID.
Here is a photo of the tag that was on it. Can anyone ID this for me?

Thanks in advance.

That would be an AQ200 stern drive.
The PZNR is followed by a B. The B indicates V-8 ratio, of which is 1.61:1.

Suggestions:

1..... replace the PDS bearing(s) before you have trouble.
If this is a Ford engine, the PDS will be single bearing. It will be removable from AFT without pulling the engine.

2.... replace the universal drive shaft bellows while you are in there.

3.... replace the aluminum water neck fitting and special beaded gasket while you are in there.

4..... replace the eccentric piston seal.

5.... perform a pressure/vacuum test with the oil drained.

Unless other work is required, remove the transmission ONLY for this work!

Use 30W non-detergent engine oil ONLY for the drive gear oil.

.

Thank you for the info. The engine it's mated to is a Chrysler Marine Slant 6 (150hp, 225CID).

If I could see a few pictures of the area behind the engine, I may be able to tell you if you have a single bearing PDS, or a double bearing PDS.
If single, you can access the PDS bearing without removing the engine.
