Johnson engine idle when cold

Hi,
I have a 1994 Johnson 130hp V4,

When engine hasn’t run for a few months it struggles to run and keep running when cold. Once you get it running you need give it some throttle to get it going properly but the throttle is on the forward/reverse lever.

Is is there anything I can adjust or check and is there a ldle lever we could fit to overcome this? Our old mercury had a idle lever which was great as you could give it a boot full and still be stationary.

Thanks in advance.

Post picture if your control box.----Controls are different but they do have a throttle only feature for warm up.

The photos probably aren’t much use.

You could state what kind of control you have.... a regular side mounted Evinrude/Johnson control box, a console mounted control, whatever.

Guessing a console control...... pull the lever straight out sideways, the go forward with it. This enables you to apply throttle w/o putting the unit in gear...... Some console models have a large chrome button to pull out with the same purpose.

Now... describe what you have.
