Novice question about getting the boat onto a plane...

RE: 1977 heavy Bayliner Nisqually, 305 V8, 280 VP outdrive. Normally climbs up into a plane at about 24 mph, 3000 rpm

What should I do to most efficiently get the boat up onto a plane? Use trim tabs? Or adjust the outdrive tilt? I normally run with the 280 completely "down".

Install a 1.95:1 Duo Prop lower gear unit, of which would be a total game changer for you!

Use trim tabs?
Yes!

Or adjust the outdrive tilt?
Unless you have the 280PT, there is no power trim. Only a manual trim adjustment.
The 280 Lift-Out unit should never be used to trim the drive!

The "set pin" should be in the middle position.

Those old bayliners had crappy foam in the hull that may be water soaked? Do a thorough survey of the deck and transom for dryrot the first indication of a water soaked double bottom!
