Having issues finding correct propeller for my 1988 Mariner Magnum 2 150hp outboard.
Seem like the old original propeller is 4" and seats into the gearcase which i am guessingnis 4.25".
The shops around here keeps tellubg me the one they sold me is the correct one:
Vortex propeller (992005) but the end of the propeller which goes towards the gearcase is either same size or slightly bigger than my gearcase.
It doesn't slide into the case and if i try to install this prop with the appropruate hub kit and thrust washer...it doesnt spin because
the propeller base is basically pressed against the gearcase.
First, are propellers supposed to slide into the gearcase (1/4 inch or so).?
If not, is there supposed to be a bigger washer / thrust washer ? i inagine it could work if the propeller didnt have to sit inside the gearcase at all and it was spaced out witha thicker thrust washer. The parts guy checked and said i have correct thrust washer.
Even if i use thr new and thr old thrust washer together on top of wach other, the prop still cobtacts the outer lip of gearcase.
I think there are props for smaller gearcases 4.25" but the marine parts guy said no.
