Lower Unit swap

Hi Guys,

I have a 72 Mercury 1150 with a bad lower unit. What years lower units are interchangeable?

Many years do, with 80/85 hp fours as well as sixes. Try doing a part number search to compare motor parts.

1970-88 inline 6 are direct bolt on and go...if you use a 4 cylinder the gear ratio is different and will have to change prop pitch.

Thanks for the input!

I have another lower unit but wasn't sure, as there is a two piece dog around my shift rod on this one and just a cam looking one attached to the new unit. Everything else looks the same.
