New water pump ordered......

But could it be something additional? First time starting it this year today. Have not had boat out this season. Started 15 hp I. Deep barrel in driveway. Very little water coming out. Shut down
the motor to save it. Changed impeller with the kit about 5-6 years ago. Boats.net is sending item in two day shipping. Could there be something else blocking the spray I should look at? 2006 SAHA 15 hp. Boat is going to go up for sale as we just don’t use it anymore. So it has sat since last November. Thank
you.

another question. Is there a bolt
prep product that can be used in water? Or will the bolts
that May come with kit have a thread “locker”
on them? Or, last oar, do we just torque
them and pray they never back out?
Mainly asking about the bolts holding
the lower unit in place. Thanks.

I would have run a piece of weed wacker line through the tell tale to remove any dirt or grime that might be impeding the water flow. just keep pushing the line in until you cant get it to go any further. Might get foot or two inside. Just to be sure it isnt blockage before buying a new pump. Either way it is probably time you changed it out.

Weed whacker string had a tough time going in. The impeller
has shipped already and will be here by evening
Friday. I would start taking lower unit off
but I have a tendency to misplace things. :(

Didn’t quite follow the air blowing truck. To
clear out water line. Where do you hook
up bottled air to water line? Inside cowling
and pull off hose from that nipple on the inside?

The OP used a garden sprayer to provide pressured air. He took the nipple off the end of the tell tale and connected the hose to the wand of the garden sprayer.

After I read it again, I realized motor was in water
and prob didn’t take the side panel off.
I used my compressor real low and immediately
had bubbles. Started it then and what little water came out
slowed to a dribble. I shut it off and put the hood and cover back on.
Next is putting the new impeller
and housing in late Friday or Saturday am. Any bolt
prep needed?

You should see bubbles coming out around the prop and the relief holes above the prop.

When dropping the leg, remember that there is a bolt underneath the trim tab fin.

Bubbles I saw came up from the front
of the ‘shaft’, which I thought was weird.
Came up fwd of where I thought I should
see them. Exactly where is the water intake?

I don't recall whether or not there are water relief holes on the front of the lower leg. There may be.

Water intakes are on the lower leg between the hub for the prop shaft and the anti-ventilation plate and are covered by a black grill on each side.

Parts arrived. Taking lower stuff off. Prop
is off. Gear inside is out. Lower lube
is thin and runny. Not good eh? Working on motor
under umbrella in driveway. Motor is in up position.

Well, thicker than water. Thicker than milk.
I don’t remember the consistency of the old when
I drain it off in the spring to add new. I didn’t do it in April.

Impeller housing is back on. Trouble now is the shift
linkage. I connected the a & b together and it moves, but the prop wont
spin when in neutral. Prop is fixed like I. Fwd
or reverse. I have tried moving the fixed
nut downward with tightening the adjusting nut
against it. Didn’t work. Any ideas?

I don’t have any lower gear lube in housing at
this time. Motor is raised. I have tried spinning prop
in lowered position as well. Still stays put.

Last time I had the prop shaft holder/assy
out, two little pins fell out, one in two pieces.
I finally had the shift linkage connected with both upper
and lower in neutral. But the prop still wouldn’t spin
in neutral. These pins prob have something to do with it.
Going to take prop shaft holder to closest dealer
Monday. Hope they can point out what’s missing and where it goes.
I have the shop manual here in front of me. This is an area where
I have never dabbled it before.

I took the image with my iPhone 5s and tried
to post it here. It won’t bring it to this
area. Not sure about things like these. I am computer illiterate.
