mercury black max 150hp starting issues

gday from down under, OK i have a 150 black max 1989 model with starting issues procedure is as follows had fuel pump rebuilt sweet but just as i thought still wont start when cold it will just keep on winding over till i flatten battery ,choke wont make a difference so i found that if i pull spark plugs squirt a bit of fuel in and put plugs back and try it then it starts pretty much straight away once started it would be OK for the day , would low compression play a part in this issue compression on all pots is about 107 average any thoughts would be great

Sounds like the enrichner is not working....do you hear a click when you press in key???

Gday thanks for the input I checked last night and I don't have a inricher as my outboard is premixed it does have a electric choke to shut the butterflies that is the only thing I can hear click

If it has choke butterflys its not a 1989!!!! Butterflys went away in 1979...
