Gear shift johnson 90hp 2 stroke

Hi Guys
Got a johno 90hp 2stroke that was going fine. Lately when i put it in forward gear it revs high but goes nowhere then all of a sudden it jumps forward and takes off like a bat out of hell. seems to not go into gear until i rev high.
Any ideas.
