Fuel tank pick up tubes

I have an older Duratank that the housing is cracked around the fuel fitting..This is the one withe gauge..No parts are available..and run a 20hp Johnson ..Talked to an Evinrude dealer and he said if I got the fittings I could take the gauge and fitting assy off and make a plate in its place and put aftermarket pick up tube on and a OMC fitting. Duratank I have has a very small dia pickup tube that curves to the bottom. The one I found has a bigger dia straight tube, but has the plastic elbow ready for the OMC fitting to thread in.Does the dia of the pick up tube make a difference. My guess it doesn't since I think they make Duratanks now with just the elbow sticking out also and I assume it has a larger dia pick up tube in it?Any thoughts or suggestions.I just hate to buy a whole new tank if I can use this still.

Thanks..thought of that already and can get one if I decide to go that route, but do you happen to know if the size of the tube matters?

Ayuh,..... 99% of the dip-tubes I've seen are 3/8",......

Some ole outboards, smaller,.....
Some Monster off-shore runners, with Monster motors, maybe 1/2",......
