Replace pre-alpha with alpha one?

[FONT=&quot]I hope to soon upgrade my old Pre Alpha (on 1974 225 engine) to an Alpha 1 and hope that the newer unit will correctly fit/interchange with my Pre Alpha gimble. Is this possible? Also, I would like to know if the same Mercruiser out drive (alpha) units are all the same as to size so that the out drive installed on a 4 or 6 cyl. engine is the same as for an 8 cyl.?[/FONT]
 
Ayuh,...... The Alpha 1 will bolt onto yer gimbel, 'n run just fine,.....

The gear ratios change with the size of the motor in front of it,.....
So, No, ya can't use a drive from a 4 cylinder on a V-8,.....
