1987 Evinrude 140 lower unit pressure test

Just resealed the lower unit after watching several videos from www.dangarmarine.com.

So the unit is back together, using a manual vacuum/pressure pump and the gear oil filler fitting, in the upper hole.

When I use the pump to add pressure or pull a vacuum, it takes lots off pumping (literal;y 100 + strokes to get the gauge to move, I can get it to move perhaps 1/8 "?

It holds the pressure and the vacuum.

If I simply kink the hose, I can pump it up in a 3-4 strokes, so the pump is working...why would it take so long to develop pressure or vacuum, is it the volume of space that I am trying to fill or evacuate?

Thanks in advance Mike

If it takes 3-4 stroke after kinking hose your tester is drawing/pushing very little and that's why it takes so many strokes.

Im sorry...it pulls vacuum or pressurizes immediately with kinked hose, takes 3 strokes to get to "10", but forever when it connected to the lower unit....never gets to 10....i can get it to the edge of the number scale and stop..it holds that position..
