over heating

I have a 4 cylinder volvo engine thats over heating changed the impeller on the salt water pump and still not getting water. Pump's not pumping is there a hose in the outdrive that could be broken causing the pump to not work? Not getting water on the inlet side of the pump.

It would help us if we knew which engine/stern drive this regards.

If AQ series (Volvo Penta OHC 4 cylinder engine), there will be an aluminum water neck fitting (on the top of the suspension fork) that may be corroded and is breaching suction.
The smallest suction breach here will prevent the seawater pump from working properly.
