Plate missing from motor - need help identifying year.

Hi.


My neighbour has a 3HP Johnson motor that's quite old. We're trying to determine the year so we can order a part. I've attached a pic of the motor and a pic of the part that's missing. Well, it's missing one of three dogs. As you can see in one pic, the plate has been removed. Thanks for any help with year and name of part (if it's not a dog).

It is called a " pawl " and the 3 springs are missing.------Go to the ----aomci----website and post a parts wanted add for late 40's early 50's model 2.5 hp.----Should be easy to find..

So it's a 2.5HP he has, not the 3HP he thinks he has?
