1989 Mercury 35 HP lower unit removal

I'm trying to remove the lower unit from my '89 mercury 35 HP. It's come down about 3/8" and won't go any further. I purchased the repair manual for the motor, but my lower unit isn't in there. Any help will be appreciated
 
I assume you removed the trim tab and the bolt hiding in there? If so, your driveshaft/ shifter may be rusted. A good way to shake 'em free is to leave a few nuts in place , fire up the motor and let it idle.
