Installed a water pump kit for my 120. The kit didn't have a real driveshaft seal it is more like a thick rubber washer. Has anyone had experience with this type of seal ?
Thanks

The washer has been used on Mercury motors for YEARS!!!
Just push it down to the top of the housing.
Make sure the shaft is clean before sliding it down, you can grease it later.

Thanks for the reply Jerryjerry05. My cause for concern is that it won't be a water tight seal because there are two notches in the top of the housing that the washer doesn't seal up.

That's the way it supposed to be.
The tiny holes let air in so the pump can bleed down and not keep water in.
They are so little, the pump pumps way more water than the motor can use and they won't hurt anything.

Like I said they've been using that system for a LONG!!!! time.

If you run the motor and water comes out the back of the mid section? That's a pressure release and excess water leaves the engine there and through the prop.
