Honda 40 alarm beeping uncontrollably

Recently we bought a Carolina skiff j16 with a 2006 Honda 40 4 stroke. When we bought it the motor ran horribly the kids that owned it could barely even get it to run on the muffs at idle. So we replaced just about everything except the power head and my buddy who is a mechanic in Crawford ville did all the work on it. We got it home and decided to put it in the water to see what it ran like and about 5 minutes after we put it in we started to get a steady beep beep from the control box. After about 30 seconds it turned in to a steady alarm so we **** the motor down and called our buddy he said the motor was most likely over heating and to take it out of the water and run barnical buster through it. So we did that and bought a infrared temp gun and it was idle ing around 145 f which he said was normal. So the next day we put the boat in the water and went to turn the key and started getting a steady beep from the control box and after sitting in idle for 2 minutes or so the beeping stopped so we went to take off and when I turned it up at a certain point in the throttle it would start to beep and every time we got to that point in the throttle it would beep. So we got the temp gun and it seemed perfectly normal temp around 150 the oil level was fine and it was peeing pretty good so we ran it for a little while and all of a sudden we started getting a whole bunch of just random beeps which turned in to a steady beep and it seemed like the alarm had a mind of its own and everything still seemed great temp, water everything was good but we just couldn’t get it to stop beeping. Our mechanic buddy Doug said that it could be something as simple as just a pinched wire but we should still bring it up to him so he could check it out. But before we make the 4 hour drive to Crawford ville can any of you help we locate the problem? Thanks - Dylan

if it is forward control it is probably because your trim sender is faulty or stuck in the up position which is a very annoying feature of these motors.Check the trim sender arm inside the port side trim bracket , with some penetrating oil and working it up and down you may be able to loosen it and get it working again

Alternatively, if your trim sender has failed you can disconnect the three pin plug and on the side going to the trim controller, bridge the orange and the black wire terminals in the plug and that will stop the buzzer being activated. This feature was taken off later models.

Yeah whenever we had bought the boat our mechanic buddy had us do that anyway because they don’t put them on the motors anymore.. so that couldn’t be it :/
