1989 force 125 spark issue

I have a 1989 force 125 that has no spark on cylinders 2 and 3. Power packs both ohmed out good, couldn't get the stator wires to give a reading. My research indicates that when the stator goes out, 2 cylinders on the same power pack should go out, so I'm stumped as to why 1 cylinder from each pack would lose spark. Boat ran fine last time it was on the water, sat for a week and had these issues when I tried to test start it before heading to the lake. Thanks in advance for any help.

First do a compression test.

Sometimes when the stator goes bad: the 2 bottom plugs won't fire.

  1. Check stator and trigger resistance, trigger wire sets read approximately 50 ohms between the wire sets (DVA-5V or more), stator reads 680-800 ohms, DVA 180V or more from blue to yellow.
  2. If readings are good, disconnect kill wire from one pack. If the dead cylinder starts firing, the problem is likely the blocking diode in the other pack.
A stator can read good and still be bad.

The 87 used the buss bar to make all the wire connections.
The trigger leads are VERY thin and can break under the shrink wrap.
You can even pull on them and they still seem connected???
Yank on each one.
I replace ALL the connectors when I work on the wiring.

CDIignition and outboardignition have test procedures.
The test results for some aftermarket stators is different.
