Tohatsu Sailpro tiller arm

Is there any way to adjust the friction on the arm movement? Mine will only stay in a vertical position; any other position it “falls down” where it will jam against the stern and preventing me from turning the motor unless I pick it up. Kind of a pain when maneuvering in tight quarters.

You could also add a shim to tighten the tiller. If it is older, and the rubber bushing is dried and hard, you could install new rubber:
You would need two
3H6631020MBUSHING, STEERING HANDLE$3.27

and one
3H6630260MSPACER, HANDLE$3.38

as well as one
3B2631080MWASHER$1.37

and then of course, you would disconnect the throttle cables and detach the tiller arm to replace the bushings and spacers. On new motors, that bushing is quite stiff.

It’s a 2014 model and the rubber bushings are very pliable. I’m going to try removing the grease and see how that works. Thanks for your responses.
