    Default Chris LA motor 1937. How does this differ from K and others.

    for something that old, I'd suggest the sister site - oldmarineengine.com.....lots of knowledge on the 'older vintage' marine items there...

    It's totally different. The K is based on a Hercules QXD block. The LA is based on a Hercules JXC block. A means aluminum head. LA evolved to M series.

    Thanks for that information! I was moving about in the engine area yesterday and the head does not appear to be aluminum. I suspect it was changed out some time over the last 81 years.

    Yup, early aluminum heads were poor and had a low survival rate. Rare to see one still being used today.
