I'm just rebuilding my new Transom housing (OF644536)and transferring all the parts over. On the parts listing for a seal which seems to fit onto the top steering spindle (Part No 26-41607 1) it says no longer available.
Is there a modification for this or is the seal no longer needed?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.
The bushing (98356 and 98357) are fitted in the housing and are fine. Do you think the seal is no longer required on my drive?
What is the grease fitting that you mention?
Thanks for any help.

The grease fitting is the one Merc discontinued and it causes rust to begin and take out the seal resulting in water entry from the steering lever. Easily installed.

I managed to get the seal mentioned, in fact , I already had one in stock.
The grease fitting sound like a brilliant idea. I don't understand why manufacturers do away with these! Well, I kind of do!!
Do you have any reference to this fitting so I can see an fit one?
Thanks for the help.

So I found an image of the grease fitting mounted on the top bushing.
Did they ever have a fitting on the lower bushing where the seal fits?
I will definitely fit one or two.

Yes there was a factory fitting there at a earlier time, then it was eliminated and thats when all the leaking steering arms started.
I believe when it was on top of the housing the steering pin had a hole thru it so the grease could reach the lower bushing.
Now the pin is solid

Grease nipple fitted!
Now then, Which hose is the high pressure hose on the 95 Alpha I Gen II.
Thanks for the help.
