New floor: Do away with ski locker cover?

Hi, I'm replacing the floor (glove) of my 1987 Smoker Craft with 3/4" Marine Plywood. Originally the floor had a wooden ski hatch cover with the spaced slats. Is it a poor decision to omit the cover? We don't ski and though there are some storage advantages for ropes, the oar etc. I realize it aids in air circulation to allow for evaporation of any water that might be present under the floor. There is a threaded round service port between the consoles for inspection of the live well plumbing that could be removed after a day in the rain or such. I'm not sure water is much of a concern since it's a dry hull and the new marine vinyl will be seamless. Structurally, by omitting the cover the floor would be stronger supporting my nearly 250 lbs. Just curious what others might think.
