Starting Problems:

Turn key - nothing; turn key - nothing; turn key - engine grunts; turn key - engine grunts - battery sounds dead; turn key - engine fires and starts. Problem progressively worse. 5 trips to dealer mechanics, no improvement - most recently, dealer said he spoke to Mercury, they said this problem inherent in this engine model and no solution known.

Fixes to date: new plugs, carbs cleaned, new starter, new stater, new wiring harness, new voltage regulator new ignition switch, several new batteries. Finally, I installed Perko switch and two new starting batteries. Wired the motor directly to one battery, all other on second battery. No improvement with switch on one battery. HOWEVER, with switch on 2 batteries, engine fires right off.

I feel problem is not enough voltage getting to starter. Can you help me determine why? Or point me in different direction. Will I burn something up starting with two batteries? Thanks!
