Putting my lower unit back together has not been hard to do until I got to installing the pinion gear.
I put the propeller shaft in the housing. Attached the shift shaft and put the unit into reverse.(There seems to be more play with the shaft that way). But getting the pinion gear in is a problem. No matter what I do, it does not seem to squeeze between the housing and the clutch dog to fit into the hole where the drive shaft goes. When I removed the assembly, it was tight, but moving the propeller shaft around it fell out. Now I can't seem to get it back into place. What do I do to get it in place?
