MD11C top end on MD2B bottom end

I have a MD2B that I can't get the head gasket to seal properly and get combustion gas going into and displacing the coolant. The engine was previously raw water cooled and there is a fair bit of corrosion . The engine has been rebuilt and other than the coolant issue runs like a champ. I am looking for some good MD2B parts to remedy this but have been wondering if it would be possible to use a MD11C cylinder and head as a replacement. MD11C parts are more readily available and the head gasket seal is more reliable. I'm not sure but I think the studs that hold everything down are the same length and bolt pattern. I know there are o-rings to seal the cylinder to the base instead of a gasket/spacer. Could it work?
