I live in CA but commercial fish in Alaska during the summer. I "set net" or fish gill nets right off the beach using small 20 - 26' skiffs. One of my bigger skiffs needs a bigger outboard (currently has 88 hp VRO). A friend wants to trade some fishing gear for one of his 2000 225hp Opti's. He bought a used counter rotating pair a few years ago and has used the standard rotation unit with no issues. Use will only be within 200 - 300 yds from shore along a mile of beach and operational hours per season will probably be fewer than 20 engine hours total. It will be a fish hauling machine, carrying up to 10,000lbs of salmon at any given time, at non planing speeds when loaded.
He's going to take the motor to the local Merc dealer to get it checked out prior to the trade. It does not come however with controls or gauges. What controls/gauge package should I look for? Is this motor "cable" operated or "fly by wire"?
