Help identifying Johnson 9.9 model year

Hi guys, I just bought a Johnson 9.9 and the seller told me it was a mid to late 90s model. It was a pretty good deal and in reasonable condition so I didn't probe too much.


The plate with the relevant numbers seems to have been covered during a repaint and I've had no luck identifying it by other means. Just hoping that someone can give me a hand.


Also, it has a 100:1 ratio sticker on it so seems to be from the period when OMC were recommending this instead of 50:1. It runs a little smokier than expected on 50:1 but I imagine this is better than risking damage at 100:1 (except maybe when solely trolling?)?.

100:1 was a joke.---The motor appears to be an 87 / 88 model.

Thanks very much. Yes, I have come across some more information which would suggest it is 1987-1990, so your '87 estimation fits in well. Did you go by the decals?

I won't make the mistake of anything less than 50:1 in any circumstances either..

Went by YOUR picture and decals.----These motors had a significant change in 93 no idea why a seller would say it is a " late 90's " model.
