1996 9.9 Force

I have a 96 Force 9.9 hp I got on a boat I bought. I can start it and it will run for 5-10 minutes then die and won’t start back till motor is cooled off completely. What causes this to happen ?
 
Sounds like your overheating it.
Put in a new impeller??
Check the thermostat, see if it's clogged??
This 96-15 the thermostat is only rated for 105d.
So if it gets over 120? somethings wrong.

Get a heat gun, 20$ Amazon, e-bay, Harbor Freight.
Start it and as it gets warm take the readings all over the powerhead.
 
It did have a fuel issue when I first got it it wouldn’t run when connected to tanks ou could prime it and it wouldn’t start unless you unhooked the tank and pulled it several times and die if you hooked tank back up while running. I’m thinking it may be the fuel pump now. I will also be checking thermostat also.
 
I have a 1990 15hp that would start right up and run until it got warm and then stall out. It ended up being a tiny pinhole in the diaphram.
