Hello,

I bought a boat with this engine on it but the battery isn't included.
It has an electric trim.

From the manual I see it's 12V.
But it says nothing about the Ah.

How much Ah do I require?
Is a semi traction battery needed?

Best regards,
Ben

Ben, for a dedicated cranking battery (batt #1), you will want just that....... a cranking battery (not necessarily a dual purpose), with a minimum of 550-600 CCA.

For your “house load” battery (batt #2), you will want to look at AH (amp hours).

.

Thanks for the info

Semi-traction batteries have slightly thicker plates and a different kind of separator than found in starter batteries. This makes the plate more robust and so the battery can stand up to more cyclical usage than starter batteries.

My houseboat has a 24v 720Ah full traction battery, like they use in fork lifts

Thank you for the explanation!

Wet cell batteries with thicker (or heavier) plates are typically Deep Cycle batteries. You will be best served if you use this type for your house load bank.

For engine cranking you will be best served with a cranking (or starting) battery (as per my post #3).
