1988 Mercury 25hp Sea Pro ignition problem

I have a 1988 25hp Mercury Sea Pro serial# OC179427. Used it this morning. Ran great. Went to start it up to move somewhere else and the motor started and then quit. couldn't get it to fire after that so I used my electric motor to get in. I'm not getting any spark from either coil. I don't have the user manual and don't know anything about troubleshooting this. Is there anyone out there that is familiar with this motor who could steer me in the right direction? I'm very mechanically inclined and don't want to get raked over the coals from a marine shop. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't accidently lip that cowl ignition switch off (as I once did)? Probably not.

First thing to check is that the kill circuit isn't grounding her out, or a bad connection. You'll need a wiring diagram to check it. If okay, then look for circuit continuity on the stator and trigger coils.
