Boat hull crack near the rudder

Hello everyone I've recently purchased a 27 feet cruiser that's fairly old but looked in a good condition except for one major crack near the rudder. It's my first boat but I think I've done my research quite well in terms of finances and what I can expect from an old boat.

My idea to fix the crack is first to sand off as much as I can and see how deep the damage goes. Then proceed to use laminated wood and fiberglass to extend the hull thats connected to the keel. Or is it a better idea to cast the replacement with epoxy? I guess a picture will explain a bit better what I'm asking. The other cracks seem fairly straightforward to fix, sanding and then an epoxy layer.

Help appreciated! Long weekends ahead but there's lots of time till May(when the lakes defrost here in Finland).
