Engine Storage

I purchased two new MarinePower Vortex S5.7V in 1999. ( Boat Project subsequently died )
The invoice description is: MarinePower S5.7 (CHEV) Engine Bobtail (withoutgear) set up for V-Drive, freshwater cooling, Drive plates, Edelbrock Carburetors. These Engines have been stored on the crates in my (sometimes heated) shop since 1999.
I have no records that show they were ever fogged.

What damage may have occurred in 18 years of storage?

Humid Seattle
Thanks for any thoughts.

Before making a suggestion... is it fair to assume that:
...... neither engine had been run before?
...... spark plugs have been installed during this time?
...... plastic plugs are still in exhaust ports?

If stored correctly, I would agree with Chris!

...... neither engine had been run before? (MarinePower provided Engine run data prior to delivery)
...... spark plugs have been installed during this time? Yes
...... plastic plugs are still in exhaust ports? Yes

Thanks for your thoughts. Should I remove the distributors and prime the oil pumps?

I forgot the part about saying thanks to two people who give so much to this forum..... to one who has contributed nothing ..3 posts and counting...
Thanks!

Yes, spinning the oil pumps would prime the oiling system.
However, to be most effective, the crankshaft should be rotated as well. This will also prime the hydraulic cam followers!

Preservation of engines and generators in storage involves several basic ...Airlines and leasing companies have a constant requirement to store engines and stands for onward shipment.
