454 crusader heat exchangers

Ive put 2 new 16lb vented stant rad caps on my heat exchangers and cant stop the leakage. should I try a higher poundage or a non vented cap or?
 
Ayuh,.... Why did ya replace the old caps, 'n what were they rated at,..??

They are leaking around the cap when the engines have pressurized and are warm. the original caps were lost by the mechanic when I had them hot tanked?
 
if they are the older "Model 350" types, those caps are rated 7PSI....if you have new 16 PSI caps and they are both leaking, I'd be inclined to check the HX surfaces....especially the inner (lower) sealing surface....
 
I had a persistent leak problem on my brand new MERC 5.7L MIE with an aftermarket heat exchanger. After several cap swaps, chased the leak to a warp in the sealing surface of the cap on the tank. Fortunately for me, some careful prying with a screwdriver and I was able to straighten it out enough to stop the leak.
