1982 40 hp fuel line question

I've got a 1982 Bass Tracker 2 with the standard issue 40 hp engine. The thing is bullet proof and runs as good today as it did when new. I have had problems lately with the primer bulb losing pressure and the fuel line is leaking just past the engine side bayonet style connector. I am going to replace the entire fuel line and connectors but I'm having a hard time finding the male connector that is on the engine....not the female end on the fuel line from the tank but the connector that is attached to the engine. It looks identical to the male connector on the tank. Is this connector somehow "directional"? I have found the check valve for around $45 but the tank side connector is only $9 and looks identical. Is ther a difference between the 2?
