Nissan NS15D2 midsection crack - is this an issue?

See picture. When cleaning down my motor today I found a crack - probably quite old in the midsection. Is this an issue? If so, can it be repaired or does the part need to be swapped out?

Motor runs fine. Gear case oil is fine, no water.

Are there any negative consequences to this? I assume this part functions as an exhaust jacket between the the head and the lower unit, which are both independently sealed. So, exhaust may leak from this crack, and water may get in.

Is this correct?

If so, how does the water exit? I'm not too worried about exhaust getting out.
 
The exhaust pipe is aft of that. That's the driveshaft area. New housings are out of stock in the USA, and would cost about $400 depending on length.
