1984 Mercury 115 in-line six

Hello, I have a 1984 Mercury 115 in-line six.
Motor has 125 compression all cylinders
Spark in all cylinders
TDC lines up with the timing decal
Motor will nt fire or start with squirt of gasoline in carburators
Please help

I do not know the history because I received this engine from a friend and he did not have much info.
I remove the engine and controls from a boat. I have always wantede one of these engines.
I removed the plugs and took a night time flash of the pistons and noticed detonation on number 2 but no holes
in any of them. I took a smooth roundish object and walked around the piston and wall and did not feel any
abnormalities.
Can it be out of time? I want to leave #1 plug and remove and ground the other 5 and spin it at night with a timing light.
Ang suggestions are really appreciated.

Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" or more, yes or no?----You will need a new impeller if you get it running.----Yes they are a nice smooth running motor if in good condition.
