Honda 225hp timing belt deflection specs .

You do not put any pressure by hand onto the idler pulley to take up the slack on the timing belt it should have a tension spring that pulls the idler tension pulley onto the belt any tension you put on the pulley by hand will wear the camshaft.

From Page 3-22 of my Helm Shop Manual...

1. Align timing belt pulleys to TDC marks.
2. Slowly turn the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise by 5 teeth of timing belt driven pulley gear
3. Apply a force of 19.6 N (2 kgf or 4.4 lbf) and measure the deflection at the mid-point between the left side timing belt driven pulley and the idler pulley.

To adjust...
1. Re-align to TDC
2. Loosen tensioner bolt 1 to 1.5 turns
3. Rotate the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise by six teeth of the timing belt driven pulley gear, then return the crankshaft pulley clockwise by three teeth of the timing belt driven pulley gear.
4. Tighten the tensioner bolt - 29 lbf-ft. (39 N.m, or 4.0 kgf.m)
