Purchased an untested 1988 Johnson 70HP VRO (disconnected) without seeing it run.
Ran fine for me on the stand at home, but would not take power on the boat.
I rebuilt all 3 carbs.
Motor ran fine at 5000 RPM (30 mph on my 19-6 boat)but quit after 15 minutes of running, and would not restart.
Got it home and it would start and idle.
Replaced the VRO pump with a new non-VRO fuel pump.
Back on the water, the motor quit after several minutes at idle speed and would not restart.
Back home it started but went into four-stroking after 5 minutes of running and then quit. Would not restart.
Any help appreciated.
