Diaphragm leaking fuel into oil.

I have twin inboards 305 Chevy Mercruisers . During an oil change we took out a total of 4 gallons of fluid from both engines. I assume it is gas getting into oil . How could that happen ? Could there be a breach of the diaphragm that is letting gas through to the oil ? Also , If I have to replace the fuel pumps do I have to use the same pump with the glass bowls attached to them ? Or can I do away with them.

gas in the oil mainly caused by a flooding carb or a ruptured pump diaphram. You can update the pump but will have to add the Tygon hose from the fuel pump to the carb . The fitting is easily added to any carb.

The glass bowls are part of old style fuel filters. These days you should use spin on filter/separators or the RACOR style units with a bowl and drain for water. Please note if you go with the RACOR style you must use the metal bowl ones with gas inboards not the plastic ones.
