Fogging a carb for winterizing

carb2.jpgWhere is the best spot to fog the carbs? Ive always just popped the flame arrestor off and sprayed the whole thing, I'm being told that's bad. Any thoughts? Thanks
 
Assuming you are refering to fogging the engine......throught the primaries bores (the side where the choke plate and idle mixture screws are.....

Spraying into the secondaries won't hurt anything.....its just wasteful of the fogging agent as very little will enter the engine.....

First off....... you will not be Fogging the carburetor. You will be supplying the fogging solution into the cylinders.

Secondly..... you have a dual plane intake manifold, which means that you MUST spray the fogging solution equally into both primary throttle bores.
If we miss one plane..... we miss 4 cylinders (V-8 for example).


Thirdly..... have a helper hold approx 1,200 RPM while you begin to fog.

The helper will cut the ignition while you continue to apply the fogging solution until the rotating assembly comes to rest.
In other words....... DO NOT allow the Fogging Solution to kill the Engine.
YOUR helper will kill the engine by cutting the ignition. The helper will hold the throttle position as well.
This way the fogging solution will not undergo combustion during the last few and critical revolutions.

All of this will occur within 8 to 10 seconds..... there is no need to go any longer!

That is the correct method for "Fogging" a carbureted engine.

NOTE: We DO NOT Fog EFI engines! There is a different procedure for these engines.
